Have some Questions?

  • Where is New Horizons Community Church located?

New Horizons Community Church is located in Sarnia, Ontario, a vibrant border city on Lake Huron. We’re part of the Free Methodist Church in Canada, serving both our neighbourhood and the wider Sarnia-Lambton community.

  • What is the size and culture of the church?

We currently average 125 - 135 people on Sunday mornings, with a strong mix of ages and backgrounds. Our culture is warm, relational, and grounded. We value pastoral presence, authenticity, creativity, and shared leadership. This is a church where people know each other’s names, and their stories.

  • What does “growing young” mean at New Horizons?

Growing young means more than starting new programs. It’s a commitment to:

    Prioritizing relationships across generations

Empowering young people with real leadership

Creating space for questions, faith formation, and belonging

Shaping church culture, not just age-specific ministries

We believe a church that grows young becomes healthier for everyone.

  • What does the Assistant Pastor role actually focus on?

The primary focus is Youth and Young Adults, with pastoral ministry shaped around the individual’s strengths and calling. This is not a “one-size-fits-all” role. We want to build the role with the right person, not force someone into a box.

  • What is the current youth ministry like?

Our youth ministry consistently gathers around 20 students. It’s relational, welcoming, and steadily growing. Students show up because they feel known, safe, and invited into faith, not because they’re pressured.

  • Will the Assistant Pastor preach?

Yes, our hope is that you would become part of the teaching team. We value shared leadership and want pastors to serve in areas where they are both gifted and growing. Preaching opportunities will be part of this role, but they are not the sole focus.

  • Is this role suitable for someone earlier in their pastoral journey?

Yes. This role could be a great fit for someone early or mid-career, provided they have a clear sense of calling, a heart for the next generation, and a desire to grow within a team-based pastoral environment.

  • Do applicants need to be Free Methodist?

Applicants should be aligned with, or open to, Free Methodist (Wesleyan) theology and values. We’re happy to walk through that together as part of the discernment process.

  • Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada. Only those selected for a next conversation will be contacted.

  • What’s it like to live in Sarnia?

Living in Sarnia means enjoying a slower pace without losing connection. We’re a border city on Lake Huron, known for stunning sunsets, walkable waterfront trails, and easy access to beaches, parks, and green space.

    Sarnia offers:
